YEARLISTING IN 2016

Compared to most recent years, when for example I recorded 165 species in the county in 2011, 187 in 2012 and 173 in 2013, this has been a particularly poor one with just 157 species recorded by mid December - one of my worst years on record

YEARLISTING IN BUCKINGHAMSHIRE

It's all over - 2012 has come to an end. I managed a total of 187 out of the 198 species recorded all told in Buckinghamshire - 94% of the total - probably my highest-ever annual tally.

The current record is 191 species achieved in 2006 and held jointly by both Rob Hill and Simon Nichols

A juvenile BLACK REDSTART in South Bucks

Jim Shaw located what he believed to be a BLACK REDSTART in his works yard in East Richardson Street in High Wycombe on Wednesday (13th August) but after finding a Common Redstart not far way in central Wycombe only a few weeks previous, he could hardly believe his eyes. Fortunately, fellow birder and employee Paul Frost was at hand and quickly confirmed the id. The bird, a juvenile, was showing exceptionally well, flitting about the rubbish skip in the yard. Paul contacted me by phone and very kindly invited me over - the bird still showing this morning (15th). Thanks guys - a wonderful experience!

DIRECTIONS: The Quadron Yard is viewable from East Richardson Street, west of the town centre off of the main Desborough Avenue. It is Pay & Display parking of a maximum tow hours - the postcode being HP11 3PZ
